Return to Retrieve the Deer Skin - Gun Cases
Same Night
Preparation for the Trip
Knowing of the of the deerskin, the Dreamer prepared a scheme to remove the entire booty without anyone catching on what he was doing. (For some reason he believed that someone was on to him by now and that he had to be somewhat creative if he were to out-maneuver them - he doesn't know who they are or how they knew about the trip).
The plan was to take two; powdered blue rifle cases, and place one inside the other. In the two cases then was placed a length of one inch galvanized pipe about the length of the Hawkin's .50. Inside the pipe was a fishing rod. At the end of the pipe at the open end of the cases he placed the end of the pipe into a baseball glove and zippered the cases closed. This gave the appearance of what the Hawkin's should resemble when it is retrieved and also would simulate the weight. In the event someone looked inside of the case in the meantime, there would be a mitt and a fishing pole - nothing too unusual for a lake retreat. The Dreamer doesn't know what explanation would be suitable for the pipe, but apparently it is not important. The plan was to make things so obviously simple that no one would catch on.
This time it is the Dreamer and his ally who go, spending the night in the lodge, and leaving with the gun cases in the morning to retrieve the roll.
Onto the ferry and the dream begins with the "Genesis of Track 8"..
The Second Wash-Out
Standing on the edge of the gully looking at the gnarled roots, the Dreamer removes the inner gun case from the other. He closed the case containing the pipe and mitt and jumped into the washout with the empty case and retrieves the deerskin (as he had done in the first dream going through each painstaking step as described them).
The Dreamer wanted in the worst way to take the time to open the strongbox. His curiosity to know of the contents engulfed him. While he was thinking about opening the box he received a premonition that he was not to be the one to open it. It had a pre-destination and he was not its fulfillment. It seemed that if it were opened now it would be a proverbial "Pandora's box", but when opened at the proper time and place it would relinquish a great treasure. What treasure he does not know - but the overwhelming presence of doom heightened and he chose to leave the box undisturbed.
The Dreamer put the roll in the gun case and it fit as imagined. The box is in the place of the mitt and the Hawkin's is in the place of the pipe in the other case. The weight is approximately the same and it would be difficult, even for us, holding them side-by-side, to tell which case was which.
The Dreamer gave the case with the treasures to his ally and the Dreamer kept the pipe and mitt. The ally was to hid and safeguard the treasure until the next day when they would leave for Tacoma. The ally went on ahead and the Dreamer returned to the lodge with his pipe and mitt.
The Dreamer laid the case in the lodge common area leaving it there until morning. Quite conspicuously and accessible to anyone if they had the inclination to peruse it's contents. The Dreamer doesn't know if anyone touched it or not.
In the morning, the Dreamer did not see his ally again until he was on the ferry. What the ally had done with the booty up to this point the Dreamer does not know. The Dreamer put his case on an overhead rack in the passenger compartment and left it there, going back downstairs to the car deck.
Later, the Dreamer came back up to the passenger compartment and when he peeked around the corner at the top of the stairway, he saw two younger gentlemen looking in the bag, seeing a mitt and pipe, look towards one another with disgusted and puzzled looks, and closed the bag to leave. He said to himself, "tag your it", because he knew that he had them confused.
Just before the ferry docked, the ally brought the Dreamer the booty case. The Dreamer exchanged his pipe and mitt with the treasure. The ally took the Dreamer's case to the side of the ferry and let it sink. The Dreamer walked off the ferry between those two young gentlemen from upstairs with his little blue bag - as they looked on in confusion.
The Dreamer and his ally got into a waiting car and headed for Tacoma.
He woke himself up.
Back to current time and place. It has become morning now.
"He will dream no more forever".
